1965 BBC 396/425HP Engine 3855962 4 Bolt Main Short Block F95 TO622IE .030 Over

Description

This is a real deal 1965 396/425HP short block. The casting number on the block is 3855962. The casting date is F 9 5 which decodes as June 9th, 1965. The block has never been surfaced and the factory stampings are intact on the front pad along with nice factory "broach" marks. The pad stamping reads: T0622IE L208261. The T0622IE shows this block was originally built as a 1965 396/425HP engine for a Chevrolet fullsize car. The L208261 is the partial VIN of the car this engine was originally installed in by the factory. This engine would make an excellent replacement for a 1965 Corvette, Impala, or Chevelle Z16 that is missing its original engine. It would also be a great period correct engine for a hot rod.
This is a first year 396 engine with many unique features. The 3855962 block only came with 4 bolt main caps and was used exclusively for high performance 396 engines in 1965-1966 model years. This is a true 1965 block with the "fangs" above the timing cover and bellhousing mounting flange which is only found on early blocks and is a dead giveaway when looking for originality.  This is a very hard to find early 396 4 bolt main block that could make a very rare car correct again.
This shortblock is in good condition overall. This was pulled out of a 4x4 truck(yes, a truck) in good running condition and has been in cool, dry storage ever since. The heads and intake were not original so I pulled them off and sold them separately. I am selling the engine as a shortblock which consists of the block, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, cam, timing chain, timing cover, and harmonic balancer. I also have the original oil pan which I forgot to picture.
The details of each component of the shortblock is detailed below:
Block:
Casting number: 3855962. Casting date: F 9 5  Pad Stamp: T0622IE L208261 Cylinder Bores: 0.030 overbore with sleeve in number 1 cylinder. Cylinders look nice with light wear and some evidence of water intrusion(staining). Engine ran well when pulled and should be rebuilt to be on the safe side.
Rods:
Factory GM forged connecting rods. Balanced to rotating assembly
Pistons:
TRW L2240N forged pistons. .030 overbore. Balanced to rotating assembly
Crankshaft:
Original GM "6223" forged steel crankshaft. Balanced to rotating assembly
Timing cover:
Original GM timing cover with 1965 only "AO" tab. Tab has been rebraised to cover. Cover has nut in center of curved area for oil pan to bolt on.
Harmonic balancer:
Original GM 8 Inch high performance balancer stamped "F  E  5"
Oil Pan:
Original GM oil pan. Nice shape overall with some dents that can be worked out.

I will also drop this engine off at any shipping terminal within 45 miles of Santa Cruz, CA free of charge. Shipping arrangements and payment are the responsibility of the buyer. Most of my customers end up using YRC freight which used to be Roadway Express and Yellow Freight. Other customers have had luck with freightquote.com and Fastenal blueline freight. The weight of the shortblock when palletized will be about 500 pounds
