ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AND RARE 10'6" SOLID KOA WOOD TRADITIONAL ANCIENT HAWAIIAN SURFBOARD.
This Absolutely Beautiful & Rare Traditional Ancient Hawaiian Style Surfboard reproduction is made from Solid Koa Wood from the Big Island of Hawaii.
It is designed in the ancient Hawaiian shape called an " A'laia " which was used by the Hawaiians in the pre 20th Century through the 1920's to 1930's.
There are 3 main characteristics of Koa Wood:
Straight
- describes wood grain that runs in one direction. It has little waving or curl, the grains are mostly parallel.
Curly
- describes a wood grain that has been compressed and produces alternate stripes perpendicular to the face of the wood. This compression creates the visual illusion of a three-dimension surface, also known as
chatoyancy
. This is Koa’s most desirable characteristic and what Koa is known for producing.
Figured
- is similar to curly in the sense that compression and other factors cause a desirable looking effect. Unlike curly, however, it is not necessarily perpendicular to the surface. It may contain uneven twists and unpredictable turns in the grain.
This Beautiful Surfboard and the extra pieces, include all three of these characteristics through out the Koa Wood Boards. Plus what some describe as Fire & Tiger.
The board still has wax on the deck from when it was surfed on the Big Island of Hawaii. It can easily be cleaned off and polished to an even more beautiful finish.

This Lot also includes two pieces of Raw Solid Koa Wood that came from the same original slab this Beautiful Surfboard was craved and shaped from. They can use for table legs, wall hangers for the board, or additional display features.
One vision, would be that they could create a unquie angled floor display with the Raw Koa Wood used as the floor pieces holding the Beautiful Finished Koa Wood Surfboard. This would create a Beautiful and Stunning Contrast showing the evolution or transformation of the Raw Koa Wood into the Beautiful Finished Koa Wood Surfboard.
