Description
This offer is for 1/2 lb. BLACK SOLDIER FLY FRASS. Contains raw natural, untreated chitin. AND, it is fortified with an additional 1% of pure chitin.Chitin is known to have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties giving many potential
health
benefits. It is used as a natural preservative.
Odorless and dry, We sift out large pieces so it is uniform. It is an excellent organic living fertilizer known to stimulate some plants to produce natural insect deterrents and increase disease resistance. I have observed insect "leaving the area" . Also used as a fertilizer. 2-2-2 Bigger plants! Fewer bugs! Use lightly in your gardens (very powerful) , or on house plants.
Why I Claim TOP quality: I raise Black Soldier Fly for pet feeders. My insects must be fed the best foods available because they are high end food specialty items raised as high nutrient pet food. Obviously, I can not
use
pesticides. They are fed virgin grains and fresh kitchen waste only. (YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!)They are raised indoors, Whats left over is top quality insect frass.
Note: My personal observations: Because I raise the bugs, I am left with a large amount of excess frass. I also decided to plow a huge quantity into my garden in the spring. The frass pile attracts a few new bird species, robins, flycatchers, catbirds and one I could not identify. Also, constant chipmunks and something big,( probably a skunk.) Nothing grew on it. No other insects or flies were observed. The garden started slower than my wife's garden (grown in composted cow manure) but eventually caught up an passed it ! I used no pesticide or any other deterrents. Almost no insect damage. It didn't hurt the weeds. My conclusion is that the frass is somewhere between raw manure and compost. The anti insect quality seems to be holding up. Next year might be better.
Update: (4/22/ 20) My kale plants made it through the winter. I have heard that that is normal but, wow! I'm in up state NY.
