OOAK Frank M Whiting Sterling Rim Deco Leaf Pattern 6.75" Ashtray Bottle Coaster

This is a one of a kind, I can find no others, 6 3/4" glass bowl with sterling silver rim marked "15 >W< Sterling", the post 1896 mark of Frank M. Whiting. The rim is a pattern of undulating sage leaves. Whiting made a variety of sterling rimmed "coaster" sets. Since they often come boxed, with a lighter, the original purpose was for smoking. You can find sets in the same silver and glass patterns (beaded, floral etc.) including a lighter, a master ashtray and four or more individual ashtrays. Replacements, however, lists all of theirs as "coasters" for glasses and bottles. This may be an alternate or dual purpose but not the original intended. The rim on this unique pattern piece hassome dings and a bend inside and has been lightly polished. I do not see any chips to the glass pinwheel bowl. I found a Frank Whiting 6 3/4" ashtray/coaster on 1stDibs, Parc Monceau Antiques, for 5. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
Significant flaws not depicted in the photos are described here-with, minor flaws and normal wear are not. Unless the item is described as new, assume there will be minor flaws or wear commensurate with a used item of given age.
