(aka “Vermicompost” or “Vermicastings”)
In vermicomposting, worms consume organic waste leaving behind castings (aka worm poop), which are abundant in nutrients and beneficial microorganisms. One pound (approx. 1,000 worms) of mature Red Wigglers (Eisenia fetida) can eat as much as their body weight per day under ideal conditions. In the process, they reduce the amount of recyclable nutrients in household, farm and other food waste that might otherwise go to the landfill. When added to soil, castings replenish it with beneficial bacteria and fungi, amino acids, and plant hormones. Also The micro-organisms present in vermicompost promote the growth of mycorrhizae, a vital underground network between fungi and plant roots.
