Early CON Surf Board AD Flyers
Constantine "Con" Colburn started surfing in 1956 at the age of 22. Con quickly recognized the growth potential of the surf industry and opened his first shop in Santa Monica, California in 1958. Called the Surf House, it was originally a ding repair shop. By 1959, Con had changed the name of his business to Con Surfboards. It was located at 824 Pico Blvd. Con Surfboards played a significant part of surfing history.
The "Surf House. Surf Boards by CON" advertising flyer touted what they offered, as well as the pricing. It measures 9" X 12". Overall in Good / Very Good condition, there are four tape residue marks on the backside (technically five, but the bottom right corner on the back is mostly missing). Top right corner on the front shows where the tape mark has "bled" through. Three of the corners are missing (please see images). The Con Surf Boards (with the logo - the middle is a "N") flyer is in Very Good condition. Top corners are are missing and there are tape residue marks on the back in this area.
These two original flyers are scarce, and provide a neat historical perspective to the arly days of surfing in Mainland, USA.
