Description
My hybrid battery failed and I decided to do a total replacement. These are the perfectly good remaining modules. All modules were individually load tested for 2 min with the car's headlight
(see photo)
.
All modules that dipped below 7.5v after 2 minutes of load were discarded.
This is a common way of testing how strong your modules are. It's not about how high their voltage is at rest. It's about how high their voltage remains
under load
.
Your modules will have different voltage readings than these batteries initially because yours have been recently charged by your car while driving. Usually these new modules will charge up and match the voltage of the other modules in your battery within 20 miles of driving, but it may take up to 200 miles depending on your driving habits. Usually while being tested in your vehicle or when they are recently removed, your modules will be about 7.8v. That is because your car is constantly charging them. Once the modules remain uncharged (undriven) for a week or more, the voltages will dip to roughly 7.5v and stay there (at least the healthy ones). This is why you don't need to fret when hearing that these modules are < 7.5v, in fact that is a high standard (check around)! Many sellers will charge their modules well over 8v and send them out with false readings. That is not happening here.
Lastly, the previous owner wrote on the tops of the modules with marker, but it is only cosmetic.
